MaCleKi lets you explore the history of Kisumu, Kenya, through location-based essays and media. A partnership between Maseno University and Cleveland State University, MaCleKi was funded by a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant (“Curating Kisumu,” 2014-15) and an NEH Digital Humanities Advancement Grant (“Curating East Africa,” 2017-18). Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this website do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Content on the site is collaboratively developed by teams of students from Maseno and CSU. The site is powered by WordPress + Curatescape using the new Curatescape plugin developed in 2017-18. The plugin is optimized for mobile users in East Africa and other parts of the developing world. The project’s goal is to build, refine, and sustain a low-cost, lightweight mobile platform and a set of best practices for project development and management that is extensible to other partners in East Africa.
